Before, during and after a practice session
Choose a lesson, read the briefing and practise together. Once you have parked, review the drive. Theory is a separate part of the course that you can study whenever it suits you.
From briefing to review
Here is a practice session where the lesson needs a route. The task and setting depend on what you will practise.
Before: read while the car is parked
Open the lesson briefing and read the goal together. The supervisor (handledare) reads the focus points and what to look out for. The supervisor guide has an example from Scanning (city), called Avsökning (Stad) in the Swedish app. Plan the route before driving.
During: practise the lesson’s task
The learner drives while the supervisor watches the driving and the traffic. Route support helps you find a setting for the lesson, but never replaces attention to the road, signs and other road users. Park first if you need to change anything in the app.
After: park and assess the driving
The supervisor starts with the required assessment of the driving against the lesson. Optional: the supervisor can assess their own supervision, and the phone is handed over so the learner can assess their driving and give feedback on the supervision.
Not every lesson needs a route. The first exercises can take place while stationary or in quiet surroundings.
A separate part of the course
Study theory whenever it suits you
On the bus, at home or between practice sessions: you do not need a car or a supervisor to study theory. You do not have to read a theory lesson immediately before every practice session.
Read a lesson
For example, choose a lesson in Traffic Rules (Trafikregler). Read the text and look at the road signs and illustrations at your own pace.
Practise with questions
A quiz follows each lesson and a test completes the chapter. The questions help you practise and check your understanding.
A plan from the basics to the bigger picture
The practical stages follow a sequence: from driving position and moving at very low speed to city streets, rural roads, motorways, darkness and slippery conditions. Each stage contains lessons with their own goals.
The final practical stage is a review of your training (Utbildningskontroll). It brings together practice in city driving, rural roads, motorways and economical driving.
Steerly supports your preparation. It is not a driving test or a certificate that you are ready. The theory test and practical driving test are conducted by Trafikverket, the Swedish Transport Administration.
